VCCA’s community of artists is based on a foundation of respect, cooperation, and self-regulation. VCCA reserves the right to ask any individual to leave the residency for behavior that, in the judgment of the Director of Artists Services or Executive Director, contributes in any way to the disruption of the creative process or residential life at VCCA.
We will not tolerate discrimination or harassment towards any member of the community.
In August 2024, Sweet Briar College announced its decision to bar transgender students from applying to the college. At a September 2024 meeting of the VCCA Board of Directors, VCCA leadership discussed this new policy and its effect on VCCA’s relationship with Sweet Briar.
As evidenced by our Statement of Culture, Sweet Briar’s new policy is in direct conflict with VCCA’s values. As a result, the VCCA Board voted to put its relationship with Sweet Briar on pause as long as their new policy is in place. As such, our series of VCCA Salons at Sweet Briar College is on hiatus for the time being.
Please bring any concerns to the attention of the Director of Artists Services and/or Executive Director without delay. If you have a concern to share but prefer to remain anonymous, you can use the https://vcca.typeform.com/anon-report form ****(embedded below) ****to report it confidentially.
