💡 Forget something? VCCA staff make a “Fellows Run” to the town of Amherst once a week: Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Usual stops include the post office, Food Lion, Hill’s Hardware, CVS, etc. Sign up in the office by 5 p.m. the Monday before.

What’s Provided
- Linens: VCCA housekeeping will supply you with clean bath towels and bed linens.
- Laundry: Laundry machines, detergent, and an ironing board with iron are available for personal use in the Laundry Room in the Fellows Residence.
- Hand soap is provided in every bathroom.
- Meals and Kitchen Space: VCCA provides breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily. While the kitchen in the Fellows Residence is for staff only, the Laundry Room contains a refrigerator, cabinets, and hot water kettle? for Fellows’ use. Brewed coffee and water are available in the Dining Room in the Fellows Residence throughout the day. Three Fellows Kitchens in the Studio Barn Complex are stocked with a sink, fridge, microwave, oven/stove, dishes, utensils, coffee makers, cabinets, and cleaning supplies for Fellows’ use.
- WiFi: Wireless internet access is available across the VCCA property.
- Printers: There is a printer available for all Fellows’ use in the library of the Fellows Residence. A printer is also provided in each writer’s studio. Fellows are responsible for their own paper and for replacing toner as needed.
- Copy Machine: A copy machine is available in the VCCA office for small jobs. There is a copy center at the Sweet Briar College Book Shop for large jobs.
- Entertainment: A TV, DVD player, and selection of movies are located in the TV room in the Fellows Residence for your enjoyment. Netflix, Amazon Prime, and other popular streaming services are available. You may also connect your phone or laptop to our stereo system or go old school with our turntable and CD player. Board games are located in the cloak room off the living room.
- Browsing Libraries: There are several collections in the Fellows Residence: the TV Room contains books, catalogs, musical scores, and recordings by VCCA Fellows published prior to 2000; the Library room holds our collection of art books, as well as the Marcia Lipson Memorial Collection, the Karen Shea Collection, and selections from the libraries of Sheba Sharrow, Marjory Bassett, and Shirley Nisbet.
- Available for Check-Out: Fellows may check out the following items from
the VCCA Office. Items must be returned to the office:
- Acoustic Guitar
- Electronic Keyboard
- LCD Projector (short-term use only)
- Items from the Fellows Library: Books, catalogs, music scores, and recordings published by VCCA Fellows from 2000–present
What You May Need
- Clothing for informal country living and occasional parties
- Rainwear, including all-weather shoes, are needed year-round; Boots are needed in winter.
- If you plan to swim, we recommend you bring your own larger towel for the pool — and a swim suit, of course!
- We strongly recommend you bring a flashlight and an umbrella for walks to and from the Fellows Residence and Studio Barn Complex.
- Personal toiletries: Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, razor, nail clippers, sunscreen, etc.
